Students who attend Sonoma State American Language Institute (SSALI) rave about the warm and supportive learning environment--from the teachers who give individual attention, to the advisors who care about the emotional and academic well-being of the students, to the classmates who study and play together in an atmosphere of cultural sharing and international exchange.
ESL Program Introduction The SSALI experience is intensive and challenging. The academic program is designed for students at high beginning to advanced proficiency. Students are given several special tests including the TOEFL upon enrollment to ensure placement at the appropriate study level. Courses are taught by a team of dedicated professionals who are trained and experienced in communicative and collaborative teaching methods. The curriculum offers rigorous core courses in grammar, composition, reading, vocabulary, and oral communication, as well as interesting elective courses including TOEFL preparation, pronunciation, business English, American culture & conversation, English through music, and idioms & slang. Students can pursue independent study in language and computer labs. Instruction is intensive; progress can be rapid depending on individual aptitude, study habits and motivation. Background Data
