The English Language Institute (ELI) of Queens College is a full-time, college-oriented program. Established in 1945, it is the second oldest English-language program in the United States. The college is situated on a beautiful, 77-acre campus located 10 miles outside of Manhattan. The campus offers state-of-the-art technology and has over 100 clubs and organizations for students to join. Not only do Queens College students come from 140 different countries, but the campus is located in the most ethnically diverse borough in the United States. ESL Program Introduction The English Language Institute (ELI) offers both daytime and evening programs. Classes meet four days a week, from 16 to 24 hours a week depending on the program and semester. All members of our faculty have earned graduate degrees in applied linguistics/teaching English as a second language and have an average of 11 years of teaching experience in our program. Students who pass our placement/final exam with a certificate are able to apply to any undergraduate program at the City University of New York using these results in lieu of TOEFL. Background Data
