School Introduction

Algonquin College has a student population of about 14,000 F/T and 40,000 P/T students. Located in OTTAWA, Canada's Capital, students have the opportunity to explore the many national museums and galleries and enjoy the vibrant lifestyle and diverse culture of this wonderful urban city. Algonquin College is just a 25-minute bus ride to the Parliament Buildings of downtown Ottawa.

The Algonquin College Language Institute offers full-time English as a Second Language instruction and TOEFL preparation for International students. Students in the language institute have access to state-of-the-art Multimedia Labs where they can access many resources to help them with their language studies. The Multicultural Buddy Network Club is designed to help students make new friends from around the world while also introducing them to Canadian culture. Students enjoy full use of all campus facilities such as: 24/7 computer labs, Resource Centre, Fitness Centre and gymnasium, cafeterias and many on-campus student clubs.

ESL Program Introduction

The English as a Second Language program offers language training in an academic environment. Our faculty are degree holders with professional TESL certification. The program takes students through various levels of instruction from beginner to advanced offering them courses in speaking, listening, pronunciation, reading, writing and grammar. These skills are further enhanced with the introduction of some general education credits delivered in the higher levels of the program which can be transferred into academic studies at the college. Finally, students who are planning to pursue higher academic studies can register in the TOEFL preparation classes offered at the language centre. Algonquin College does offer a conditional admission to students who may wish to consider further studies after completion of the language program.

Enjoy your stay in Ottawa by joining our Homestay program. Many students enjoy living with a Canadian family. The Homestay family will provide you with accommodation, meals and support throughout the year. The monthly cost of the Homestay program is $675 CAD per month.
