School Introduction

The Centers For Training and Careers (CTC) are non-profit, school-to-work based English Language Immersion alternative high schools designed to educate immigrant, refugee and at-risk youth ages 16-21. Students take courses in ESL, computer skills and Microsoft Certification, vocational and economic self-sufficiency training and classes needed for high school graduation. CTC also offers Workforce Training (Work Experience) and an Independent Study Program.

All courses are designed to meet Minnesota high school graduation standards. There is currently no other program of the type CTC offers within the Twin Cities area--the training and preparation CTC offers is critical to the success of local immigrant populations and at-risk youth who seek to become thriving and integral members of the Minnesota community.

ESL Program Introduction

English Immersion (EI) places students in English-speaking classrooms, with support and assistance in their native languages from tutors and teachers as needed and only to explain concepts or nuances of the new language. English language job-related skills are discussed, practiced and read using an interactive approach, which encourages student participation.

Through sheltered academic instruction, traditional curriculum areas of instruction (Language Arts, Math, Science, History, etc.) are made comprehensible to students learning English as a Second Language (ESL). Techniques employed include simplified speech, context and task-function orientation, along with computer-assisted instruction related to the working world.

Schedule & Fees

There is no tuition and registration is free. Students may register at any time. Morning, afternoon and evening meals and bus tokens provided at no charge to qualifying students.

Independent Study: Hours are arranged by student with ISP instructors.
