English Language Institute of Virginia TechBlacksburg, Virginia USA
Virginia Tech is a major research university with nationally recognized programs in Engineering, Business, and Architecture. The University and its English Language Institute are located in a quiet and secure, semi-rural town about a five-hour drive from Washington DC. The ELI offers 25 hours of class a week on four levels designed to help students meet their personal and professional goals. The small size of the program means that instructors are able to give each student personal attention and support. The English Language Institute at Virginia Polytechnic University is accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) for the period April 2002-April 2007 and agrees to uphold the CEA Standards for English Language Programs and Institutions. ESL Program Introduction The English Language Institute offers students small, academically rigorous classes in a caring environment with experienced, professional instructors. Although the main focus of the curriculum is academic preparation, students can elect to focus on improving their conversational and verbal skills. The ELI works with American students enrolled in academic classes at Tech to offer a strong conversation partner program. Student aides help plan a variety of activities including bowling, shopping, and restaurant trips. Blacksburg is convenient to winter and summer outdoor sports. The Southwest Virginia region has a rich cultural heritage, which is examined both in class and through field trips. Background Data
