School Introduction

ELS Language Centers in Berkeley, California will offer both Intensive and Semi-Intensive English Programs with start dates every month of the year. The ELS/Berkeley center and student residence option is located inside Hillside Hall, a private facility with well-equipped classrooms, a full service cafeteria and comfortable dormitory rooms shared with University of California Berkeley students. This location is within walking-distance of the UC Berkeley campus, Bears sports stadium, International House and Berkeley's many popular attractions, restaurants, cafes and shops. ELS/Berkeley will open on February 6, 2006. Most of the staff and instructors have worked for ELS Language Centers for many years.

ELS Language Centers has a special partnership with the University of California Berkeley Extension that offers Conditional Admission to its International Diploma Programs to ELS students who complete ELS level 112 of our Intensive English Program.

ELS Language Centers/Berkeley students will have access to various recreational facilities near the UC Berkeley campus and will have special opportunities for discounted UC Berkeley events.

ESL Program Introduction

This location offers group Intensive (30 lessons per week), Semi-Intensive (20 lessons per week), and American Explorer (15 lessons per week) English programs. It also offers a TOEFL iBT Prep Program beginning September 17, 2007.

Students in the Intensive, Semi-Intensive & American Explorer English Programs offer instruction and practice in all key language skills: speaking, listening, pronunciation, vocabulary, reading & writing. The Intensive English Program also offers afternoon elective classes that focus on specific interests (such as American Idioms, American Film, Current Events and American Culture).

The comprehensive, 12-week TOEFL iBT Prep Program offers practice in reading & listening skills, writing and speaking, as well as test-taking strategies to help increase the TOEFL score.

Private instruction is also available.

TUITION (varies by program): $1055 to $1465 per 4 weeks

Application Fee: $135 (one-time fee)

PREP PROGRAM FOR THE TOEFL iBT:

Housing/Accommodation Info

Dormitory option is located in the same building as the ELS Language Center classrooms and also houses University of California Berkeley students. 19 meals per week are included in the dormitory price. Weekday meals are taken in the on-site cafeteria. Some weekend meals are taken at the popular International Housing cafteria, within walking-distance of ELS. Homestays are available in the local area and include breakfasts and dinner daily with lunches also included on weekends. Most homestay students travel to ELS by public transportation (own expense). Apartment options may be available for advanced booking for married couples and families. Interested students should contact ELS/Berkeley for prices and availability.
