School Introduction

Established in 1910, Portland Adventist Academy offers a coeducational Christian program for American and international students. We offer beginning and advanced ESL classes, including TOEFL Preparation. Students who test out of the ESL program by passing the TOEFL iBT may pay the same tuition rates as American students. Each international student is paired with an American student mentor, with whom they plan parties, attend cultural events, and do homework. Students from all faiths are welcome at PAA. Host family arrangements can be made as well.

ESL Program Introduction

Beginning classes include ESL Grammar and Speaking, which focuses on vocabulary expansion, reading comprehension, and increasing vocabulary skills. ESL English Writing Skills helps to improve more advanced beginners' compositions and essays. ESL Computers offers practice in keyboarding and basic programming. ESL Bible covers the fundamental beliefs of Christianity and stories in the Bible, and ESL US History begins with pre-Columbian history and ends with the modern era. Advanced courses include ESL TOEFL Preparation and US History.
