School Introduction

International House Durban is Durban's premier English language institute and a proud member of the International House World Organisation.

IH Durban is part of the Wild at Heart Group, a private, family owned and South African based company which started in 1997. They set out with a mission and a passion to expose young people from all over the world to the wonders, wild places and people of Africa. Wild at Heart offers youth safaris, adventure holidays as well as volunteer and research projects. We are now proud to offer excellent English tuition in the beautiful city of Durban, on the east coast of South Africa. We are also a University of CambridgeESOL approved teacher training centre. We now also offer a variety of exciting, new packages like ENGLISH & LIONS, ENGLISH & SURFING, ENGLISH & DIVING etc. Our courses include General English, Intensive English, Academic English, Business English, IELTS Preparation and Private English with highly experienced CELTA qualified teachers. There are also lots of excursions for students when they are not in the classroom. Although our focus is on adults, we also offer Private and Semi-Private Classes for children.

LOCATION
The school has recently moved to impressive new premises, located in the fast-growing, upmarket area of Umhlanga, just north of Durban, 10-12 mins from the beach and 5-7mins from the city centre which can be reached by public or school transport. A block away from the school is a major shopping centre (mall), the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere, which offers a multitude of clothing shops, supermarkets, cinemas, restaurants and activities like go-kart racing, rock-climbing, mini-golf, surfing and inline skating.

Housing/Accommodation Info

ACCOMMODATION We offer a choice of two accommodation types, Student House and Host Family. With up to 77 students attending our English Language School every month we realized that we needed to offer up-market accommodation but at student rates to both our students and other budget travelers. We decided to find a centrally situated facility that would allow students access to all amenities like bus routes, shopping malls and main beaches. The aspect of safety was also a deciding factor, so we opened Wild at Heart Traveller’s Lodge which offers:  92 beds with bedding, of which all rooms have en-suite bathrooms.  There is a large dining room with a fully equipped kitchen.  Breakfast, lunches and dinners.  Internet Café, swimming pool and entertainment centre.  Adventure Travel Centre where you can talk to a qualified tour guide about our day and weekend trips to places like Hluhluwe, the Drakensberg and the coast enjoying activities such as horse-riding, quad biking, hiking and many, many more.
