Academic English Studies (AES) is located in Portland, Oregon. Known as the "City of Roses," and also ranked by Travel and Leisure magazine as "the safest city in the US," Portland combines lively arts, active sports, and ethnic and cultural diversity with scenic beauty and a temperate climate. Portland is situated midway betwen Pacific Ocean beaches to the west and the snowy Cascade Mountains to the east. Lewis & Clark is located in a safe residential neighborhood close to Portland's clean and attractive downtown area. The campus is beautiful--set high on a forested hill with flowers, grassy lawns, and magnificant views of distant, snow-capped mountains. ESL Program Introduction Academic English Studies (AES) is the intensive English program at Lewis & Clark. AES students enroll in courses to improve their English and prepare for study at Lewis & Clark and other US universities. AES courses focus on an integration of language skills and cover reading, writing, speech, and research techniques. Students can take ESL content-based courses in areas such as computer applications, science, media, and research skills. AES offers a fall and spring of approximately 16 weeks each, and an intensive summer semester of approximately 12 weeks, along with a six-week half-term summer semester. Background Data
