School Introduction

Portland English Language Academy is in the heart of downtown Portland, Oregon: a safe, beautiful, and friendly city. Portland is a great place to study because it has big-city activities like shopping, concerts, and restaurants, and Portland also has beautiful nature and outdoor recreation, too. Our school regularly plans trips to the coast for sightseeing and the mountains for skiing/snowboarding and river rafting. Portland is not an expensive city. There is no sales tax in Portland. Portland also has a great bus and train system which is free downtown. You do not need a car to enjoy living in Portland. Students love our city and learn a lot in our school. Our friendly staff and excellent teachers look forward to welcoming them here.

ESL Program Introduction

PELA offers unique English+Volunteer, English+Internship, and Intensive English programs. Our Intensive English is a great way to obtain a high level of English in a short amount of time. Our English+Volunteer and English+Internship programs offer classroom instruction and 4+ hours per week of volunteer opportunities and specialized internships. PELA also offers effective Intensive TOEFL and TOEIC Preparation classes. The test score our students want can be theirs. We can help them get it. Students will have many chances to practice their English with Americans inside and outside of the classroom. Students will learn quickly and have a great time while they are here.
