University of North Carolina at WilmingtonIntensive English as a Second LanguageWilmington, North Carolina USA
UNCW is one of the 16 campuses of the NC State University System. We have excellent programs in Marine Biology, MBA, Nursing, Education, and more. It is a mid-size school of 11,500 students, so the atmosphere is relaxed and very student-oriented. One of our goals is to internationalize the campus, so we have a strong International Student Organization and many services for our students, including Host Family and Conversation Partner programs, social & sports activities, and many services that support students. The ESL program also includes Service Learning and UNCW class visits. Our large campus is and only 5 miles from lovely Atlantic beaches and historic Downtown Wilmington. ESL Program Introduction The ESL Program features courses in all four areas of language skills: reading, writing, speaking/listening, and grammar/structure. One of our specialties is test preparation. The program is customized for the students' specific needs. There are 4 classes per day, 4 days per week; one day is reserved for excursions to local places of interest and we take one longer trip during the semester break. The instructors are professional and dedicated to providing and excellent educational experience. We use the computer labs all over campus and have a new language laboratory that has ESL software for TOEFL prep and Pronunciation. Students also enjoy learning about the community by participating in Service Learning activities, such as working with children, animals, or the environment. One of the newest dormitories where students live is International House. It is dormitories on campus and is 50% international, 50% American. Background Data
