The ELC is located on the campus of Drexel University, in a safe residential area near the heart of beautiful, historic Philadelphia. The city lies on the East Coast of the U.S, about 2 hours by car from mountains, seashore, New York City, and Washington, DC. The first capital of the U.S. and is now the country’s fifth-largest city, “Philly” offers many cultural, recreational, and entertainment opportunities.

ESL Program Introduction

Drexel ELC's Global Business English Pre-MBA Program (GLOBE) is designed to meet the needs of both prospective MBA students and pre-MBAs about to begin their studies. Participants must have a university degree and place into ELC Level 4 in both Speaking and Writing. The course features 18 hours of required classes per week, including The Language of Business Information (7.5 hours). This is an integrated skills course that focuses on concepts and key vocabulary related to specific topics such as marketing, finance, international business, and human resources. The course uses case studies and current business news from authentic sources and includes research and visits to local businesses. Other classes include Academic Reading & Writing (7.5 hours) and a 3-hour Special Topic chosen from academic, business, or cultural English topics, or test preparation (TOEFL, GMAT). Other program features include MBA class observation and networking opportunities plus lectures and workshops.

Housing/Accommodation Info

3 housing choices are available: Drexel World House Dormitory: located on the Drexel campus, two blocks from the ELC. Shared rooms (2-3 students per room), bathrooms, kitchen, and laundry facilities; lounge with a TV, VCR, stereo and computer. Small, friendly atmosphere with social activities. International House: large dormitory-style residence, 15 minute walk from the ELC. Single rooms with shared bathrooms and kitchens; computer room, weekly films and special events. Homestays: Live in an American home. Private rooms, self-serve breakfast each morning, 3 family-style dinners per week. Most are located in residential neighborhoods convenient to the ELC.
