Houston, the fourth largest city in the US, has a metropolitan population of more than three million. The city has an international airport, museums, the opera and the symphony, festivals, theaters, concerts, sporting events, outstanding restaurants, one of the world's foremost medical centers and many other attractions. The NASA Johnson Space Center is nearby and Galveston's beaches, less than a hour away, afford many recreational opportunities. ESL Program Introduction The Rice University Intensive English is open to non-native speakers who wish to improve their English language skills. The program provides a challenging course of study for working professionals and students preparing for university study or professional programs. Classes are small, with an average of ten students, and are offered at beginning through advanced levels. Students from more than 40 countries attend this program, established in 1978.
