The English Language Institute (ELI) is located on the campus of Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) in Americus, Georgia. Americus is a small town in southwestern Georgia. Approximately 15,000 people live in Americus. Plains, the hometown of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, is about 15 minutes by car from the GSW campus. Both Pres. Carter and hiw wife attended GSW. Columbus, Albany, and Macon are larger cities about an hour away. ESL Program Introduction ELI students attend 4 classes per day, 5 days a week. Subjects include reading, writing, grammar, and listening/speaking. A language lab and a computer lab are also available with tapes and programs to help students improve their English abilities. Students go on field trips and attend activities during the semesters which help them to learn about and adjust to American culture. Background Data
