Founded in 1876, the University of Colorado at Boulder is an outstanding academic institution with a cosmopolitan population of over 25,000 students. The university, whose distinguished faculty now includes three Nobel Laureates, offers advanced degrees in over 70 fields of study and is the hub of an educational and scientific complex whose influence is world wide. The International English Center, established in 1975, helps promote the mission of the university through English language training and cultural orientation.
Boulder is within easy reach of the resources of metropolitan Denver, including major museums, entertainment venues, and four major league sports teams. Denver International Airport is 70 minutes to the east and accessed with the student bus pass. The Boulder campus is close to many city, state, and national parks, and is only a short drive from some of the most spectacular scenery and best recreational areas in the country. World famous ski resorts such as Vail and Breckenridge are serviced by a special university bus.
The Intensive English Program at the International English Center(IEC) is fully accredited by the Commission on English Language Accreditation (CEA). CEA was established to promote excellence, assure quality, and recognize programs that meet accepted standards in curriculum, faculty and student services.
The curriculum of the International English Center's intensive ESL program is particularly suitable for students from abroad who are preparing to enter a college or university in the United States, but is also suitable for students interested in studying English for business purposes or others who are simply interested in improving their English through intensive study.
Instructors are required to have M.A. or Ph.D. degrees and experience teaching in intensive English. All instructors are native English speakers, who are highly qualified and have taught English for many years in the U.S. and overseas to adult students from many language backgrounds.
Student Services include visa and immigration advising and assistance, academic advising and assistance for students applying to U.S. colleges and universities. The IEC provides many opportunities for students to enjoy recreational activities such as skiing, horseback riding, rafting, social parties and receptions, outings to museums and the theater, and other seasonal activities. Students also have the opportunity to practice their English skills with their own Conversation Partners and in the Conversation Club.
