School Introduction

The University of Denver founded the English Language Center (ELC) in 1975 to prepare international students with the language skills and the cultural adjustments needed to succeed in both undergraduate or graduate university academic programs. Five levels of intensive English are offered year-round with students attending 25 hours of class per week focusing on the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. All our teachers have at least a Master's degree and many years of experience teaching ESL in the U.S. and in other countries.

The ELC is fully accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation 2000-2005. The ELC has its own building with classrooms and faculty offices. There is also a large student lounge which has comfortable furniture, tables and chairs for studying or eating lunch, a large refrigerator, two microwaves, computers, a television, and a library. The University is located only minutes from downtown and students have the best of both worlds - the convenience of city life with the recreational opportunities of the nearby Rocky Mountains. The school provides apartment lists for students interested in renting near campus. Our on-campus housing website can be found at www.du.edu/housing and contains all information on dormitory life. Staff in the student housing office are glad to work with our students. The ELC has a homestay coordinator who works with homestay students to find an appropriate placement.
