Mississippi State UniversityEnglish as a Second Language CenterMississippi State, Mississippi USA
The English as a Second Language Center at Mississippi State University offers students over 20 hours of language study per week in an intensive English setting. We have a strong core curriculum, elective courses, and conversation partners. We also have on-line courses for students who want to stay in their home countries to study English.
ESL Program Introduction Students accepted into the Intensive English Language Program are tested and placed into one of four certificate programs based on the English language skills they already possess. The programs are Foundations, Basic English Mastery, General English Mastery, and Professional English Mastery. Students demonstrating mastery and completion of a program are eligible to enroll in the next level program. The content of the core curriculum for each certificate program is focused on literacy skills, vocabulary, reading, writing, and grammar. Listening and speaking skills are practiced in each core curriculum class. Additional attention to listening and speaking skills is available through elective courses and the conversation partners program, both of which are included in the cost of tuition. Students unable to travel to the United States can register for our on-line eGrammar Series.
