School Introduction

The Premises
The building which houses the Academy of English and Culture was constructed in 1939 to incorporate the ballet studio and residence of the Russian Princess Nathalie Poutiatine (1904-1984), the only child of the Noble Olga Zelenoy and Prince Paul Poutiatine, born in St Petersberg, then the capital of Imperial Russia. Forced by the Russian Revolution of 1917 to leave Russia, the family spent some time in Malta where the Princess met Edgar Tabone who was to become her husband. The Academy housed the first Russian Ballet School in Malta and in its time trained numerous students some of whom went on to join international companies. It also welcomed leading professional companies who gave classes and workshops.

The Academy of English and Culture is situated in Sliema, Malta's commercial centre. It is a fifteen -minute walk from Paceville, St. Julians, Malta's entertainment centre and only a ten minute ferry crossing to Vallette, the Capital City and world heritage site.
